Recreation is often confused with outdoor sports and activities. This is a big myth because recreation in the true sense means an activity of body and mind which gives relief from tension and fatigue. Our long and demanding work hours leaves us in a physical and mental fatigue and strain. Recreational activity relieves us of the feeling of fatigue, restores our energy and promotes a sense of joy.
Recent research indicates that people who participate in physical and mental recreation enjoy better mental health, are more alert, and more resilient against the stresses of modern living. Participation in recreational groups and socially supported physical activity is shown to reduce stress, anxiety and depression, and reduce symptoms of brain related disease.
